Engine back together...

Jason had postponed his return to Cairns for work to come to Team Booger Mobile HQ (aka Damian's shed) to get the head bolted on and see the mighty engine fire up after its latest rebuild.

The block, as left by Damian after installing bits and pieces.

The new head, getting ready for an exhaust manifold.

The old head, with exhaust manifold attached.

The exhaust manifold has a small crack in it, that was worrying the rebuild guys, however with scrutineering so close, the boys have no choice but to use this manifold.  It appears to be quite superficial, and in a non-essential area.

Jason removing the manifold...

Damian cleans off the remains of the gasket.

Jason cleaning up some of the stubborn bits...

And the sparks fly - shortening a couple of the manifold bolts.  They weren't actually pulling tight previously... sheesh!!

Manifold attached and the head half cleaned...

Head positioned on the engine (sitting on it's flash, new graphite head gasket), but OH NO... the bracket that Damian had made has clearance issues for the thermostat housing...

Out comes the radiator and fan (including the thermo fan).

Jason lending a hand while practicing his self-portraits...  Pretty good Jas!!

Damian tensioning the head bolts...

On with the hydraulic lifters... Damian knew the secret to pre-loading them, Jason knew how to get them in the right position to pre-load, so between the two, a champion effort ensued!!

Jason created a new bracket (mounting onto the thermostat housing bolt) while Damian reinstalled the radiator etc (not pictured).

Cutting off the excess...

Cleaning it up...  Damian was glad he moved the container of petrol used to clean some parts!!

And painted... beautiful work Jason!!

Filling up with oil... the time to test start the engine was rapidly approaching...

Filler cap back on.

And the engine, completed.  But did it start???

The video below tells the story!!

Looks like Team Booger Mobile will make it to scrutineering this year... Damian has a few more tasks to attend to prior to this, while Jason heads back to Cairns to keep working...

Stay tuned people, it's starting to get exciting!!
