Longer test drive - some good news, some bad...

Time to take Booger Mobile on a longer test drive - this time to visit Damian's parents at Maleny in the Sunshine Coast hinterland... this will give it a good few hills to climb and a decent run on the highway...

First stop - local shops to buy some morning tea...

Then into the servo to fuel up - time to do a fuel consumption test - then out onto the highway...

It was a beautiful, sunny day...

Damian was smiling...

Might take this exit...

Then follow this sign for a while...

There's the sign to turn right!!

Follow the signs to Maleny...

Start of the steep hill...

Very steep!!

But the view from the top is spectacular!!

Past the winery... no time to stop today!!

Through the main street of Maleny, and up another big hill!!

Past a Ferrari/Lamborghini or similar - bet he was jealous of Booger Mobile!!

And parked at Damian's parents house!!

Gratuitous rear shot...

Time to head back home... very steep descent apparently!!

Just to prove that Booger Mobile really was up on the hill!!

And heading down...

Down...

The very steep descent continues!!

Down further...

Then back out onto the highway (through the magic of the interwebs)!!

Damian was keeping two chevrons apart like a good boy!!

Glasshouse Mountains in the background...

Heading home a slightly different way to add more kilometres, and drop Tricia off at the shops!!

This road is the same one from earlier, but heading in the opposite direction, at the opposite end of the road!!

Turn left to Caboolture, or you'll end up back where you came from!!

Action shot of turning left...

Nice tree-lined road...

Apparently there's a detour ahead!!

After dropping Tricia off a the shops, a couple of things happened... firstly, Booger Mobile started playing up a bit, and secondly, Damian stopped to get petrol and afterwards Booger Mobile REALLY started to carry on...

Back in the shed...  time for a summary...

Fuel consumption was calculated at around 16.8L per 100km.  This is about the same as it was with the old engine, however this engine is using the far more expensive 98 octane fuel...  That said, the performance of this engine (in terms of sheer power) is far greater...  That's good.

Booger Mobile had no trouble staying on 80 km/hr (the speed limit) when climbing the hills to Maleny - that's good!!

Driving at 110 kim/hr (the highway speed limit) was a bit of a pain - the mid-range power (due to the disconnected vacuum advance) was terrible...  great acceleration and great slow cruising, but pretty average on the highway - that's bad...

However, after stopping to get fuel, Booger Mobile stalled four or five times on the way home from the petrol station (around 3 km), and continued to be a pain in the butt at home.  That's bad...

Damian took the opportunity to reconnect the vacuum advance and go for a spin - the pinging returned...  that's bad.

He then took a couple of degrees out of the timing as suggested by the dyno-tune dude - pinging all but gone...  that's good...  More testing required, and the saga continues...

  1. GREAT DAY FOR A LONG DRIVE IN THE BOOGER MOBILE
Booger Mobile did really well,on the long trip to Damian's parents place in Maleny. Taking all the steep hills and inclines with an ease that made Damian very happy :).At last things are finally looking up,with around another 120 km on Boogers clock getting there.
But alas the pinging is back, but Damian solved it for now by following the advice given by the dyno- tune dude.
Thank you Damian was a wonderful country drive, great pictures as always, looking forward to the next exciting blog to find out how the Booger Mobile goes
