Test drive to Dayboro and beyond!

Time to bundle the family into Booger Mobile for another test drive - this time to find out if reconnecting the vacuum advance and taking a couple of degrees out of the timing would make it better (or worse).  After seeing this pic, Damian was glad he was wearing pants after making a special guest appearance in the reflection!!

So who is going to open the gate?

Ah, Damian's lovely wife Tricia has done that...

Down the road, and an action shot of turning right!!

Who is holding up the progress?  Ah, the damn learner driver in the red car!!

Time to head up into the hills!!

Oh, a chicane!!  This should be fun!!

Damian concentrates while the Glasshouse Mountains watch on in the distance...

You think the road might go right here?

Oh bother... a dead end (at the Boral Quarry)... time to turn around!!

And now the road goes left... what a complete surprise!!

What's up this road?  Oh blast, another dead end!!

Back down the road, and much to the boys excitement, a non-sealed section!!

Woohoo!!  Carving it up on the dirt, putting Booger Mobile's Kumho R700 rally tyres to good use!!

But all good things must come to an end... back onto the tarmac!!

And turning right, heading to Dayboro!!

Another nice view... but where does the road go???

The views continue... as does the road!!

Mt Mee or Samford?  Samford it is!!

Through the main street of Dayboro...

Turn left at the historic Dayboro Pub.

This 4wd was in the way pretty much the whole way to Samford, and a bit beyond!!

Dawdling around in the 100 km/hr zone...

Oh goodie... another hill!!

Past the bikie gang...

And turning left just before Samford...

That 4wd is back again...

Down a steep hill...

Around the corner at 80 km/hr to find that 4wd stopped to turn right... Booger Mobile's brakes are in good working order!!

More hills and winding roads...

Left at the end and heading towards Strathpine, with more hills...

And a nice, long straight!!

This race car's number is 32...  does that mean Booger Mobile is twice as good (number 64)??

And into civilisation...

Damn traffic lights...

Left onto the highway towards the Sunshine Coast...

This is one of the best highway entrances in Brisbane...  windy and plenty of speed!!

And onto the highway!!

Time for a detour to Kallangur to visit Jason...

This picture doesn't really do it justice, but Booger Mobile was already on the exit, when this twit in the green car came roaring up the middle lane, cutting across the left lane and onto the exit in front of Booger Mobile...  Damian was less than impressed...

Sadly, Jason wasn't home... but the point of the visit was to stop Booger Mobile for a few minutes to see if it would have similar problems with stalling etc that it did yesterday...

Yes, it did.  Bugger.  Damian suspects that there's something a bit strange going on with the float level in the carby, because after about 5-10 mins or so, it comes good again...

Still playing up a bit, and heading towards Damian's exit...

Good thing this photo doesn't have sound, as Booger Mobile took the opportunity to stall again at this set of lights...  Thankfully that was the last time, as it sorted itself out and ran beautifully the rest of the way back to Damian's place.

Under the low train bridge...

And back at Damian's front fence!!

Lessons from today's test drive...

1.  Having the vacuum advance connected (and a couple of degrees of timing removed) made it perhaps a little smoother to drive, but had limited effect, and there was still the occasional pinging and a signicant loss of power.

2.  The "stop for a few minutes and Booger Mobile will have stalling issues when you restart" issue is continuing, and needs a professional to look into... might be a trip back to the carby mob coming up!!

3.  Booger Mobile's brakes go well - as you would expect given that they were brand new last year, and have less than 5000 km on them.

All in all, a great test drive.  The esCarpade is just over 9 weeks away now, and there's still so much left to do... Damian is starting to stress!!

  1. It wouldn't be Escarpade if Damo wasn't stressin'! Settle down... it'll all be just fine on the day!! ;)

  2. DRIVING DRIVING THREW THE BEAUTIFUL QUEENSLAND COUNTRY SIDE
What a great day to go for another test drive with your family. The pictures show just what a beautiful day it was,but of course you always come across the stupid uncaring drivers who care less about other drivers and their families using the road.
Really good to see the Booger Mobile out cruizing, and doing so well till the same problem came up again with the Booger stalling, hopefully Damian will get it solved soon
with the Camp Quality esCarpade drawing ever so close, the Booger needs to be in perfect running order.
No need to stress Damian all will go well and you and Jason will soon be on a great journey in the Mighty Show Car called The Booger Mobile, doing it for the kids.
Thank you Damian for another great blog looking for to the next one :).
