De-Boogerfication Continues

After pilfering a bunch of switches, relays, wires and other bits and pieces, the underside of Booger Mobile's dash was looking a bit worse for wear...

With only three switches left, Damian reverted to the previous switch panel...

Next up, the green LED strobes were to be removed - the switches and controller are gone, so they were doing nothing anyway!!

Gone from the rear window...

The ones on the front grille are held on with pressure-clamps...

Home made by Damian!!

And gone, with the grille still in perfect condition!!

Green LED strobes ready for Retro Rock-It...

Along with the amber LED strobes, the whole set are ready for transplanting!!

With all the wiring and lights gone, the roof rack could now go too!!

But naturally, one of the safety tek-screws (to prevent the vibrations causing the roof rack to slide along the rail, as happened in the first year), snapped off!!

This one snapped off flush with the bracket, so with a bit of wiggling the bracket came off... then a pair of vice grips removed the remaining part...

And of course, one snapped off on the OTHER roof rack too, and on the opposite side of the car!!

This one snapped off a bit further out, therefore, the only way Damian could get it out was by using a hacksaw blade to cut a slot into it, then use a straight screwdriver to remove it... That did the trick!!

Roof rack gone...

Last to go was the aerial...

After lots of mucking around, Damian fed the coax from the aerial back through the firewall (after pulling a few wires through to get them out of the way, then reconnecting them afterwards), then tidied up the under bonnet wiring and put the battery back in.

Before reconnecting the battery, the under dash wiring was finished off...

And of course, all this work is being watched over by the Booger Angel.

After reconnecting the battery (and finding that everything was working, and nothing caught fire), Damian took Booger Mobile for a test drive - all good!!

Slowly but surely, Booger Mobile is changing from an esCarpade car to a retired esCarpade car.

Of course, this year Damian is building a new car called Retro Rock-It, so if you want to catch up on the progress there, check out the Retro Rock-It blog at http://retrorock-it.blogspot.com

De-Boogerfication Begins

Well, the first step of Booger Mobile's retirement has commenced... that's to swap Booger Mobile over to the more restrictive, but significantly cheaper Special Interest Vehicle (aka Club) Rego.

Next up, removal of the rooftop pod... that will need re-theming for Retro Rock-It!!

Undo all the bits...

Merlin dropped by to see what Damian was up to...

And the pod is gone, as is the Booger Mobile esCarpade identification sticker...

Observant readers will note the patch of transmission fluid - seems that the leak from the transmission has not yet been resolved... grumble grumble...

Washing, Sponsor Thanks and the Fuel Gauge Punchline

With the 2017 Angelhurst Village Car Show coming up, Damian figured that to hang out with the expensive cars (Ferrari's, Porsche's, Jaguar's etc), Booger Mobile should be clean!

A good looking bit of kit, for sure!!

Even Giggle looked clean and happy!!

Damian thinks it's going to be tough leaving the poor old girl in the shed this year!!

With the washing done, Damian thought he would give a final thank-you to the 2016 sponsors of Booger Mobile - Aus Minecraft...

Kaye and John Stevens (Special K from WA).

Cadist Consulting.

Deon Cameron from EarlyFalcons.com

Steve and the team at Aussie Jumping Castles.

Fraser Strain - Safety Certificates.

Denise Gadsden, and Catherine and Paul Price.

Jason Sheather and the crew at Shopplumbing.com.au

It's an emotional time...

Oh yeah, one last thing.  Damian spent another day wiring and rewiring the fuel gauge, with seemingly no progress...  Then he finally just put it back together and hoped for the best!!

Turns out he had wired it up right and fixed it, but because the tank was pretty empty, it didn't move until after fuelling up...

This is progress, for sure.  The gauge is working, but the fuel sender needs to be adjusted (since the tank is full, but the gauge is only reading 3/4 full), so the tank will need to come out AGAIN...

At least the fuel gauge is working again!!

Fuel Gauge Fixing - Part 1

One remaining item of grief was the non-functioning fuel gauge.  Booger Mobile has a voltage-regulated instrument cluster, working on 5V instead of 12V.

Pulling the instrument cluster out...

Damian bought an after-market voltage regulator... would it work?

Given that Booger Mobile is now retired, it probably wouldn't matter all that much... but Damian would still like to see it work.

With some rewiring of the connections required (even though it should have been plug and pray), the completion would be another week coming…

Transmission Pan Gasket Replacement

With Damian's new car not yet arrived, and a fundraising event coming up, it was time to keep making progress with Booger Mobile to ensure it was in a driveable state!!

This transmission pan gasket leak would need to be fixed!!

Draining the oil...

Hard to get an action shot!!

Merlin found Damian under Booger Mobile and proceeded to inappropriately tongue Damian's face!!

This could be the reason the pan gasket was leaking!!

And this grunge inside probably isn't good, either!!

Ewwwwwwww...

So clean you could almost eat off it!!

Selfie while adding transmission fluid!!

Fixed... test driven and looking awesome!!

Damian is still sad about the decision to retire Booger Mobile...  Has he made the right decision?

Only time will tell…
