Kickdown Cable Adjustment and Under Bonnet Clean

The countdown is on!!  The esCarpade is just over 10 weeks away, so it's time for Damian to pull his finger out and get some of the more fiddly tasks sorted out...

Under the bonnet is a bit dirty, so that needs a good clean... but first, the new kickdown cable doesn't quite adjust out far enough, so it will be necessary to put a spacer into the bracket to allow for more adjustment.

Of course, this is a job that calls for a beautiful assistant!!  (Damian can't be under the bonnet and under the dash at the same time!!)

The kickdown cable bracket (centre of picture below the black spacer with a hole in it) with newly added spacers...

Test drive completed, and of course, it decided to rain on Booger Mobile while Damian was cleaning under the bonnet!!

Passenger side still looks alright...

And far less dust and grime under here now!!  Sadly, Damian also managed to water blast some of the paint off the side of the engine block... whoops!!

With just over ten weeks until esCarpade, there are three more fundraising events that Booger Mobile will be attending...

1.  Brisbane Billycart Championships.

Sunday 18 August 2013 at Carindale Recreation Reserve, Cadogan Street, Carindale.

2. Corvettes on the Coast

Sunday 15 September 2013 at Southport Parklands.

3.  2nd Annual Team Booger Mobile Skating Fundraiser

Sunday 22 September at Sk8mania North Lakes.  5pm to 8pm.

Three more opportunities to get along and support Team Booger Mobile, who are past the minimum amount, and are on their way to their $10000 goal!!

Dick Johnson Racing Open Day

Daybreak, Sunday morning... Booger Mobile is washed and shined ready to head to the Dick Johnson Racing Open Day, where four esCarpade cars will be special guests!!

Heading off into the cool morning...

Down the highway...

Always time for a selfie!!

At first Damian thought something was on fire, but it was just a foggy morning on the south side!!

Meeting at the BP Yatala - Team Afro in their freshly painted Fireman Sam Pajero were already there...

Selfie, ruined by a shadow... still, good for comedic value!!  808 aka Purple People Eater arrived in the background...

Shark Mobile arrived also, as did Team Ryan (new entrant for 2013) who were there to lend support, but their car isn't quite ready...

Parked looking good!!

Damian posing...

Cars lined up to go on display - clearly they heard Booger Mobile was attending!!

The four CQ teams lined up and getting ready for fun and fundraising!!

Damian went for a little walk to check out the cars, and found this one that was a similar colour to Booger Mobile...

This classy GT was Damian's favourite of the morning...

The grid girls were doing the rounds for photos with the cars...

What could the crowd up near Purple People Eater be for?  ;-)

A quick trip through the Dick Johnson Racing building...

Ford stuff hanging everywhere...

Greens-Tuf... even Dick loves green!!

Either a very unfortunate front page for the day, or brilliant timing and advertising - you decide!!

Channel 9 interviewing Dick Johnson - Booger Mobile is likely to be in the background!!

More of Dick being interviewed...

Purple People Eater makes an appearance... freaking out women and small children in the process!!

Damian has a minor Booger issue...

Damian's favourite for the afternoon - another GT that came and parked just near the guys...

"The Rock" - as in the one that was rolled out in front of Dick Johnson at Bathurst in the early 80's...

Time to go home, and poor old Purple People Eater picks up where they left off last year - this time carby problems...

Bit of luck it will get going soon, and hopefully Tony will get it sorted before esCarpade so that he can have a trouble free run this year!!

Cars started to head out... it was time to head home.

Snappy pic of Damian's green socks that were a gift from the Clowns last year...

Heading down the Gateway Bridge...

City skyline beautifully framed by the door frame, and the fence!!

And home!!

Check out that awesome LED safety light...  Team Afro asked if it was going to be bright enough... Sharky was driving behind it and said it burned a hole in his retina, so it would seem the answer is YES!!

And back in the shed, ready for a sleep.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Dick Johnson Racing Open Day and stopped by and said g'day, got some photos, chatted about old cars or made the occasional donation - hopefully everyone had a great day!!

Tailshaft back in and kickdown cable replaced

Time to get cracking and get Booger Mobile into driveable condition again...

First job - refit the tailshaft... done!!  Has there been a tragic accident?  No, it's just grease!!

Next up, time to do the kickdown cable...  Safety first... up on jack stands!!

Remove the transmission protection plate... bit grubby!!

That's better!!

Seems that there's been a bit of transmission fluid leaking...

Now it's really leaking... mainly into the bucket (although there was a patch of it on the floor for good measure!!)

Inside looks pretty clean!!  The old kickdown cable is still attached...  not returning correctly.

Damian detaches the kickdown cable from the firewall end...

Hmmm...  old kickdown cable, new kickdown cable...  Any wonder it wasn't returning properly!!

No time for resting under Booger Mobile, Damian, there's work to be done!!

New kickdown cable attached - note that it returns to the correct position now!!

So clean, you could almost eat off it!!

And the pan reattached...

On with the protection plate...

The beginning of a new spacer...

And through the magic of the interwebs, it's all back together again!!

Not seen here is the two hours Damian spent looking for the little clip that holds the accelerator cable to the carby... it went missing sometime between picking the cable up off the bench and putting it on Booger Mobile... what a debacle!!  A suitable clip was located in a bucket near the bench, leading Damian to believe that it must have fallen off the cable and into the bucket, since there was no spare clip available (he had to buy a clip last year!!)

There are several events coming up shortly for Team Booger Mobile, so be sure to keep an eye on the upcoming events section!!

esCarpade is only 3 months away!!
