Booger Mobile is DRIVEABLE AGAIN!!
Way to go, start with the punchline... back it up a bit there!!
Angus was coming around to help Damian with the kickdown cable part of the accelerator pedal assembly. The boys were going to use the one from the cable pull on the existing pedal assembly.
Damian wielding an angle grinder... what could possibly go wrong?
Nothing!!
Angus welding it back together...
What's not shown here is the half hour of cursing, sweating and crying in order to get the pedal assembly back into the car - it basically threads through the hold in the firewall, and has to wangle around the pedals and wiring etc...
The completed pedal assembly (well, the bit that sticks out through the firewall) and the linkage!!
Voila!! Is back together again!!
Test drive done, and Damian decided to give Booger Mobile a well-needed bath!!
Shiny!!
Got to keep the sponsors happy!!
And what a nice rear!!
Back in the shed - lights flashing...
Not to forget the nice, shiny green LED's from Cosmo Lighting!!
So the kickdown cable is reattached, and the pedal assembly is now completed, and Booger Mobile is DRIVEABLE again!! Woohoo!!
Hopefully this is the end of the saga with cables etc…

Accelerator Linkage - the exciting conclusion!!
As it turned out, the auto store couldn't supply a linkage of the correct size due to supply issues, so Damian found one on ebay, crossed his fingers and hoped for the best!!
Perfect fit!!
Much better angle here...
Once the linkage was attached, and the accelerator pedal was adjusted (no photos), Damian went under Booger Mobile and tightened the pan bolts on the transmission - they seemed to have slightly wriggled loose during last year's esCarpade, which could account for the pool of fresh oil under the car... Hopefully this will fix what wasn't an issue last year!!
On the topic of issues that weren't there last year, it would appear that a bit of glue is required on the boot lid seal... tack that onto the todo list!!
And there ends today's work - nothing further can happen until Angus comes over with his welder to tack on a piece to attach to the kickdown cable...
This accelerator linkage saga is beginning to rival the early days of Booger Mobile!!

Accelerator Linkage saga continues...
Hooking up the mechanical linkage to the small holley carby that was attached, it became apparent that Damian could actually use the existing carby, and not have to find a 43mm air cleaner, which it would seem is rarer than a unicorn pooping skittles!!
Step one - grab the original part from the carby (that had been removed to fit the cable system last year), and remove some unneeded bits...
Yeah, but... something needs to stop the carby when it returns... Idle adjustment ding dang...
Angle grinding and breaking stuff...
These bits are in the way... time to remove them...
Alright!! One idle adjustment stopper ding dang...
Hook the linkage up to the end of the newly created part...
Hmmm... seems awfully close...
Speaking of awfully close... Cisco decided to wander into the shed to see what Damian was up to!!
The problem with the short linkage connector was that the accelerator pedal only had about a cm of movement to go from fully closed to fully open... the solution? Make the end further away!!
Plenty of clearance this way!!
Of course, making the end further away had the unintended consequence of requiring a shorter linkage, so that was the end of the progress...
Back at the auto store, Damian discovered that they didn't have the required linkage in stock, and would have to order one in... Of course!!
Stay tuned... surely this will have a happy ending sometime!!
