esCarpade 2014 Day -1 - Nyngan to Broken Hill

After a feed and a sleep in Nyngan, it was time for the boys to hit the road...

First up, a quick check of the exhaust manifold - the flange gasket needed a bit of tightening again...

Downtown Nyngan, looking for a  breakfast coffee...

Service with a smile - sparrows cleaning the bugs from the grill and the radiator - there were two of them, and they were going actually going between the grill and the radiator eating the splattered bugs!!

Time to head towards Cobar, and Broken Hill!!

Angus driving, Damian drinking coffee...

Another set of random train tracks...

Road train... perhaps it should have been on the tracks!!

Cruising along...

Lots of trees, and straight roads...

My lord, how far from home are the boys???  Florida coming up!!

Cobar Shire... couldn't be too much further to Cobar, could it?

Apparently it could...

Look, a bend in the road!!

Angus is a picture of concentration...

And kicking back in the passenger seat is Damo!!

Cobar!!

Downtown Cobar... time to stop for more fuel...

And back onto the road...  watching out for kangaroos and goats!!

Couldn't be too much further... or could it?

Artistic shot of the switch panel...

And of course, the Booger Angel still watching over the boys... thanks Elli!!

Looking out the back window...

Goats!!  They would make a mess of the front of a car!!

Purple People Eater coming up behind Booger Mobile...

And long, straight roads again...

Giggle found it hilarious, as per usual!!

Nearly lunch time...

The Emmdale Roadhouse...  Damian and Angus were both expecting it to be a little larger!!  Great steak burgers though!!

Booger Mobile at the Emmdale Roadhouse...

Back on the road...

Long, straight roads...

Still...

Wilcannia Police Station...

And Court House...

Kangaroos 196km...

Ironically, 195km to Broken Hill!!

More long, straight roads, with a few kamikaze kangaroos (all nicely avoided).

Damian driving, Angus having a post lunch kip...

Did the boys mention the roads were straight?

And long?

Really long!!

Not much to look at out the side window either!!

Just long, straight roads that were long and straight!!

Wait, is that a bend?

It is!!

And a train line... must be close to civilisation!!

Or not...

A couple of dishes with a bird scoping them out...

Damian's google-stalking leads him to believe that these are satellite dishes for NBN Co broadband...  He's happy for comments to let him know what they are really for!!

Even leading into Broken Hill, it's safety first!!

Broken Hill!!  Probably wasn't broken before European settlement occurred!!

Damian's dodgy camera almost failed to record the lovely welcome extended by Broken Hill!!

Down the main street...

And after a false start (due to the address being wrong for the hotel the boys were staying at), Damian and Angus finally arrived at their hotel and settled in for a few quiet drinks before dinner...

The view from the balcony...

Table setting... nice romantic dinner for two!!

Some of the awesome murals inside the Palace Hotel...

Up that way to the rooms!!

Murals on the ceiling too...

So, after two days and almost 1700km, the boys and Booger Mobile have arrived safe and sound in Broken Hill...  What adventures lie ahead for them?  Only time will tell!!

Stay tuned - it's time for the fun stuff to begin in earnest!!

  1. Glad to see Angus driving and not sleeping...it is very obvious that Damian was very bored during that drive. Nice to see the Police and court building in Wilcannia are so grand what were the rest of the town like??? Happy safe travelling guys.
