You can see the wet patch just below the front edge of the carby...
Sadly, it's fuel...
Damian realises that it's leaking from the main jet, which is what he replaced a couple of days earlier, so it was time for the carby to come off for a closer inspection...
After locating and fixing the issue - the small copper gasket on the main jet cover had slipped while being reinstalled, and was preventing a clean seal of the cover - Damian moved on to something he had noticed last week - the exhaust seems to be hanging a little lower than it used to.
Damian removed the exhaust from the manifold, and decided to replace the exhaust manifold seal/gasket/annoying metal thing while he was at it... It was quite a mission to get the old one off!!
Slightly destroyed old one, beside nice shiny new one!!
New one ready to be installed...
Voila!! Lock nuts on and all!!
The exhaust is definitely a little higher than it was earlier... hooray!!
Back on with the carby...
It was time for a test drive to check the fuel economy. Damian loaded his boys into Booger Mobile and headed to the local BP to fuel up (that's a quick joke for other esCarpadians - Booger Mobile runs best on BP Ultimate, and because it has such a small fuel tank, during esCarpade (or more accurately, on the drive to the starting point and home again) Damian is constantly on the lookout for the next BP). After fueling up, it was time for a drive, so he headed south, then turned around and headed north... past the Big Pineapple...
They doubled back south past a truck carrying what looked to be giant rabbit ears (but were actually some kind of electricity transformer/substation/transmission component)...
Past the Ettamogah Pub and Aussie World...
And back to the same BP to fuel up again... a round trip of exactly 172km (according to Damian's GPS). In that distance, Booger Mobile used just under 30 litres of fuel, for an economy of just over 17L/100km... now by today's standards that's pretty bad, but compared to the carby main jet that was in it last week it was sensational!! And more importantly, back to where the fuel economy was last year, but with the car running better!!
Damian has been putting off painting Booger's head for a while, so decided it was time to bite the bullet... After a quick trace around the paper eyes, it was time to crack open the spray paint!!
The pic above is similar to what it's meant to end up like... How did it go?
And tracing out the mouth... it looks a bit odd like this, but it will all make sense a bit further down the blog post!!

All in all, it seems to be a reasonable likeness to Giggle, the Camp Quality mascot... Now where to attach the boogers???
