Day 6 of the Camp Quality esCarpade, and Damian and Angus were a bit miffed about the wheel alignment incident from the previous day (car pulling to left, paid for wheel alignment but it didn't fix it).
They had arranged for Reg to check it out at breakfast time...
Seeing nothing wrong, and with the line up for Reg's services growing, Damian was left scratching his head...
Parked Booger Mobile...
And headed to breakfast.
Driver briefing...
Former Camp Quality camper and Emerald local Imi dropped by to say g'day to Damian and check out Booger Mobile.
Now, this is where the day gets interesting... If you would like to just view the pretty pictures, feel free to skip this paragraph (or two). If you want the full details - read on!!
Kerry from TOJO (who also has a nice XM Falcon at home) was wandering past and saw the front left wheel on Booger Mobile. He noticed that there was a bulge in the surface of the wheel, which he suggested was the cause of the pulling to the left.
Damian changed this tyre (the front left), with the good spare tyre from the boot. Tyre change ONE for the day. This did indeed fix the pulling to the left issue, and left Booger Mobile with four good tyres on the road, one bulging tyre that probably shouldn't be used in the boot, along with the second hand tyre replaced after the blowout on day one.
Damian and Jon Jag from MW2 having boogerific fun!!
Damian and Angus decided to do another school visit... Puppet briefing!
At the school, Damian loaned his water cannon to one of the teachers, who had tremendous fun!!
Lots of kids at the school, and even more lollies!!
And boogers...
Fred making a grand entrance at the puppet show as per usual.
Selfie with Johnny Dominello!!
The puppet show was awesome as per usual!!
Time for a grand parade through town...
Then out onto the highway, to drive 111km to Rolleston, where the boys could pick up the route notes and continue on.
Moo!!
Long train...
Same train...
Still the same train...
Finally, the end!!
Rolleston... time to fuel up!!
After fuelling up, Damian discovered that the right rear tyre had a puncture... Tyre change TWO for the day.
On went the second hand tyre, leaving three good tyres plus the second hand tyre on the road, plus a punctured tyre and bulging tyre that probably shouldn't be driven on in the boot...
Ladybirds fun stop...
Still no water to be seen...
Always time for a selfie!!
Tragedy... Two flat tyres at the same time... both on the rear.
What are the odds?
Photographing an eagle while waiting...
And waiting...
And waiting.
Con from MW2 plugging the tyre that was punctured (spare tyre). It went onto the driver's side rear. Tyre change number THREE for the day.
Trying to find another suitable tyre from the two flats and bulging spare...
It was discovered neither of the flat tyres were retrievable, so the bulging spare was placed on the passenger side rear of Booger Mobile. Tyre change number FOUR for the day!!
Seems the photographers were also in tyre trouble...
More tyre casualties...
TRAGEDY!! The driver's side rear tyre blew out... destroying not only the tyre, but the rim as well... The problem now was that Damian had no more spare tyres!!
Waiting... again!!
Kerry from TOJO stopped by, dropping off a spare tyre that was nearly the same size as the other tyres on Booger Mobile...
After fitting it, the boys decided that 5km from Carnarvon Gorge was the closest they would be getting on this trip... With no further spares, and at least on of the two tyres on the rear that wasn't that crash hot, it was decided the boys would gently crawl down the bitumen - 225km to Roma!!
Oh yeah, that's FIVE tyre changes on Booger Mobile in ONE DAY!!
At this point in the proceedings, Damian's camera ran out of batteries... Probably just as well!!
Saturday morning, the local tyre shop in Roma will be very busy with esCarpade tyre replacements!! They are opening early, so Damian has the alarm set, and hopefully will find some suitable replacement tyres (three required - one spare isn't fixable due to the damaged rim).
Booger Mobile continues to drive beautifully well, and the fuel economy is great!! This year would seem to be the year of the tyre trouble!!
