Front springs again... for crying out loud...

Well, just when you thought it was safe to read the Booger Mobile blog, Damian's back with another front springs post...

Regular blog readers would remember that Damian replaced the front springs with some XD Falcon springs, leaving it sitting a little too high at the front...

Looks alright just sitting there...

But looking directly from the side, you can see that the suspension is far too high.  The measurement between the centre of the hub and the lip of the guard is 46cm when sitting there...

Time to rip out the XD springs and throw back in the original Lovell's springs for comparison.

One spring out...

One spring in...

One side finished!!  Damian is getting quick at changing the front springs... this is probably a sad indictment on the front spring saga with Booger Mobile, but still a good achievement.

The driver's side spring with compressors on it... they only need a couple of turns to compress the spring far enough with the spring guards removed...

Dropped down off the jack stands (after both sides were completed, of course), and the centre of the hub to the lip of the guard measures 41cm.  Not too bad, but it will certainly settle from this height after a test drive.

Pre-test drive...

And out on a test drive with the family in tow...

Stopped in traffic, the temperature seemed to remain quite reasonable, even though the oil pressure has dropped (which happens when idling).

And back in the shed, after test drive.  It's clear that the springs have settled, but how low is it now?

This view tells the story.  The measurement from the centre of the hub to the lip of the guard is now only 35cm.  According to one spring manufacturer, standard height is 39cm, so before starting, it's already 4cm lower than it could be.

Armed with this new information, Damian will collect Jason on Monday morning and go visit the suspension place who do all Jason's work for him.  If it even sat at 41cm after bedding in, Damian would be stoked...  At least it gives the boys something to aim for.

The esCarpade is now only 4.5 weeks away...  lolsigh.
